Chris is an eminent ecologist and holds a Professorship in Terrestrial Ecology at the University of Sydney. He is the recipient of dozens of major grants and awards, including New South Wales Scientist of the Year and a Discovery Outstanding Researcher Award from the Australian Research Council, and was elected to the Australian Academy of Science in 2018. He has written, co-written or edited over 20 books and over 400 scientific articles and is regularly invited to speak at conferences worldwide. His ecological research in the Simpson Desert in southwestern Queensland is among the longest-running field research programs in Australia, with uninterrupted surveying since 1990.
